Explore the imperial cities of Fez, Rabat and Marrakech, all former or current capitals of Morocco and all known for their traditional architecture, maze-like medinas and fragrant souks. Along the way, travel through diverse landscapes, from the Atlantic coast and High Atlas Mountains through fertile plains to the Sahara, whose dunes remain a crossroads for nomadic communities.

Day 1 — Fly to Marrakech

Fly from London (regional connections available) with British Airways. Transfer to your hotel in the city.

Day 1.1 — Transfer: Marrakech to Rabat

Day 2 — Casablanca - Rabat

After breakfast, travel to Casablanca for a city tour including the Hassan II Mosque. Continue to Rabat for a stay of two nights in the centrally located La Tour Hassan Palace. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Day 3 — Rabat

Take a morning tour of Rabat, including the Royal Palace and the 12th-century Hassan Tower with its mausoleum. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 3.1 — Transfer: Rabat to Chefchaouen

Day 4 — Chefchaouen

Travel by road to the blue-walled town of Chefchaouen, perched beneath the rugged Rif Mountains. Take a walking tour to discover the casbah with its charming gardens. Stay overnight at a beautiful riad furnished in Arabic style with exemplary views across the region.

Day 4.1 — Transfer: Chefchaouen to Fes

Day 5 — Volubilis - Fez

Travel to Fez, stopping en route at the Roman ruins of Volubilis, once the western edge of the Roman Empire.

Day 6 — Fez

Join a full-day tour of Fez, the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities. Explore the winding streets and alleys of the medieval medina, including the Attarine madrasa, souk and tanneries. This evening, dine at a historic riad.

Day 6.1 — Transfer: Fes to Erfoud

Day 7 — Erfoud

Full-day drive to Erfoud on the edge of the Sahara, between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountain ranges. Stop at Ifrane village for a walking tour.

Day 8 — Erg Chebbi

Morning at leisure. Later, visit the caravan town of Rissani, then journey into the Sahara in 4x4s. Stop to drink mint tea with a local nomad family and see the sun set over the dunes.

Day 8.1 — Transfer: Erfoud to Ouarzazate

Day 9 — Ouarzazate

Travel to Ouarzazate, stopping at Todra Gorge, an impressive orange-coloured canyon. Tour Ouarzazate and visit the Tifoultoute Casbah. Continue to the village of Ait Benhaddou, a superb example of traditional architecture; scenes from Gladiator , Prince of Persia and The Jewel of the Nile were shot here.

Day 9.1 — Transfer: Ouarzazate to Marrakech

Day 10 — Marrakech

Depart for Marrakech. In the afternoon, visit the beautiful Jardin Majorelle to see the exotic plants and Berber Museum.

Day 11 — Marrakech

Take a full-day city tour of Marrakech. Highlights include the lavish architecture of Bahia Palace and the Ben Youssef Medersa, the Koutoubia mosque, and the souks. Finish in Djemaa el Fna square, a carnival of musicians, fire-eaters, storytellers and snake-charmers. Attend a farewell meal at a local restaurant.

Day 12 — Fly to London

Transfer to the airport and fly home.

Hotel & Ryads Barriere Le Naoura is centrally located in Marrakech, close to the medina and souks. Dotted with landscaped gardens and palm filled patios, the hotel features 144 rooms, suites and ryads all with balconies or terraces. Facilities include 2 restaurants and a bar, and a large inviting outdoor pool and spa.

Hôtel La Tour Hassan Palace

Hôtel La Tour Hassan Palace is located in the heart of Rabat's city centre, close to the Hassan Tower. First opened in 1914, the hotel blends Moorish-Andalusian architecture with modern elegance and features delightful verdant gardens with palm trees, sun terraces and a sparkling outdoor swimming pool. The hotel's restaurants offer gourmet and traditional Moroccan cuisine, and its elegant guestrooms are decorated in a contemporary Moroccan style.

Dar Echchaouen Maison d'Hôtes & Riad

Dar Echchaouen Maison d'Hôtes & Riad is a riad located near Chefchaouen's medina. The 16 rooms are decorated in traditional Moroccan style.

Palais Ommeyad Suites & Spa

The Palais Ommeyad Suites & Spa is located in the Old Medina in Fez, a 20-minute walk from Karaouiyne Mosque. The property has traditional Moroccan decor and features spacious guestrooms. The restaurant serves Moroccan cuisine characterised by a variety of dishes, mainly from Arabic, Berber or Jewish traditions. Please note there are currently renovation works taking place on a hotel and parking area adjacent to the Palais Ommeyad Suites in Fez. Your stay should be unaffected by noise, as hours of work are 9am to 5pm, when guests are out exploring the city. Views from your hotel are unaffected by the works, however the short walk from the drop off area to the Palais Ommeyad passes the site and the road is likely to be dusty.

Hotel Palais du Desert & Spa

Set on the outskirts of Erfoud, the Palais du Desert Hotel & Spa occupies a vast and lush oasis dotted with palm, olive and almond groves. The hotel's 44 spacious suites put a modern spin on the property's desert oasis theme. Amenities include regional and international restaurants, a lounge and bar, an outdoor pool and a spa.

Hotel Riad Ksar Ighnda

Located close to the renowned site of Aït Ben Haddou, just a few kilometres from Ouarzazate, the Riad Ksar Ighnda is an ideal relaxation spot on the edge of the desert. The buildings have been designed to blend into the natural environment, using local materials in their construction. Features: 157 rooms, restaurant, bar, hammam, spa. Room amenities: Television, safe, minibar, hairdryer, air conditioning.
